Music council is a leadership opportunity for students involved in the music extra-curricular program at Eastwood. Their focus is to help plan concerts and raise money for the music program throughout the year. Students from grade 9 to 12 are encouraged to be involved as long as they are in at least one music group at Eastwood.
Year Long Duties and Roles of Music Council
Fundraising
This job includes choosing fundraising initiatives, counting money and collecting forms, emailing and keeping in contact with involved companies (through the team leader), and creating fundraising forms if necessary.
Advertising
This role involves creating posters and online advertising, as well as collecting info for school Twitter feeds, for all concerts, events, and fundraising campaigns.
Secretary
This person is responsible for recording the minutes from our weekly meetings. They must post them to our group Facebook account, and email them to the people who do not have Facebook.
Attendance Secretary
This role takes attendance at our weekly meetings, and acts as back up for meeting minutes if the secretary is away.If someone must miss a meeting, they must notify the attendance secretary with a valid reason.
Ensemble reps
The role of Ensemble Reps is to pass on information to the ensembles about upcoming events. These people must communicate well with the teachers as well as with other students. They also need to make sure that teachers make time during rehearsal for announcements. Ideally, they must have a second job on Music Council in order to contribute sufficiently.
Reps are required for the following groups:
Senior Band/Contraband
Junior Band
Chamber Strings/Fiddle Group
Junior Strings
Chamber Choir
Concert Choir
Arts Council
Cabinet
Tech Crew
Morning Show/Radio (if possible)
Photographer
Like ensemble reps, they must have a second job on the council. Having more than one photographer helps make sure all the groups have photos of them in practice and performance. These photos can be posted on the music bulletin board, used in promotions and on our website (with permission), and/or given to Ms Gruber for yearbook.
Concert Nights Program/Production Duties
Program
Create and type the program for concerts. Retrieve information, including lists of groups, selections, players' names, etc. After program is completed, they will also create stage directions as well for tech crew and backstage.
Food
Bringing up and collecting the food that people bring. Setting up the food table (including table cloths and and decorations in that area) and serving during intermission.
Decorations
Come up with decorative theme, decorate foyer, and clean up after concert.
Advertising
Create, print, and hang posters around the school, as well as advertisements for teachers' mailboxes and/or email. Also announcements must be given to radio. As most of this work occurs before the concert, these people must then be sure to help with set-up/clean up and anything else that is required on concert nights.
Misc.
Folding Programs, buying flowers/thank you gifts for teachers, booking after party, collecting grad cards (spring music night only), carnations/roses for grads (spring music night only), assisting with decorations and food, stage loading and set-up, foyer set-up.
Video Crew
Make the intro video for the night which introduces the theme and reminds audience members of etiquette and device useage. Create script, and find actors and film crew, edit film as necessary.
